What’s New in November!

Last week I feverishly worked to get my lovelies ready for a local first Saturday of the month faire. This was my first time attending, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, how much foot traffic would there be, etc, but I figured, I was just getting my feet wet. I wanted to start doing local shows to help increase my sales and spread the word about Ink & Stitches.

The day was a rainy Pacific Northwest day. It was at a park downtown and although I thought they were going to put me inside the building that’s there, they had set up a white tent with sides just outside of the building that housed six of us. Inside the vendors were mostly non-profits, the library, and various associations. It was a volunteer appreciation event. Those in the white tent were all vendors, like myself, selling our products.

I arrived first and picked the space closest to the opening of the tent which was strategic and got me the most visibility. Unfortunately, the foot traffic wasn’t great and those who came, many didn’t realize that the faire kept going outside the building. All that said, those that came to the tent were extremely excited about Ink & Stitches, the books were a big success, and got people excited to read about Whimsy and Theodore.

People were excited to know that I am a local author/illustrator and gave them a sense of city pride to have one right here in Ridgefield! The event went from 9am-2pm though we did pack up a wee bit early because it had died down after 1pm. For me, the event was a success, and from talking to other vendors, it was not the norm for the first Saturdays events. Most likely due to the change in location.

I have signed up for December’s first Saturday on the 4th and can’t wait to see what a normal event looks like. They will be doing a lighting of the Christmas tree, and it should have lots more vendors selling gifties for the holidays. I’ll take lots of pictures to share with all of you.

Here are a couple more pictures of the final setup for my table for those interested…

Starting Monday of this week, I began taking an online course with Children’s Book Academy, where I’ll be honing in one of my picture books and sharing it with agents and editors in the literary world.

My plan was to try to do NanoWriMo to get book 3 written in my Tales of Whimsy series, but with the course being several weeks long, I’m not sure that is feasible although I will try my best to, at the very least, get the ball rolling. Whimsy deserves it 😉

Lastly for November, I got a bee in my bonnet wanting to get back to traditional art in the form of clay. I bought the supplies needed to create my own clay pins, charms, earrings, etc. They will be hand painted, sealed with resin and I’ve already drawn up several designs I plan to make. If you have any character ideas for clay items you’d like to see, please leave a comment below. Also, what would be your top choice:

  1. Pins
  2. Earrings
  3. Charms
  4. Magnets
  5. Keychains

Let me know which number you’d choose down below. I am doing this for fun but to also gauge interest if this is something you’d like to see more of! They will each be unique, so when I list them in the shop, you will see they each have a number to choose from so that you know the exact design you’ll be getting. I can’t wait to get out my supplies tonight!

If you follow me over on Instagram, I’ve been shooting quick reels that share some of my behind-the-scenes work, packing orders, using my new Silhouette Cameo 4, and more. I’d love for you to pop over and follow me there too so you don’t miss anything.

I hope you had a magnificent October and Halloween, and are looking forward to November as much as I am.
