WISHGHAN CAL – WEEK #3: Flit

Where would Whimsy be without her fellow adventurer, and constant companion, Flit?

She put Flit up on her shoulder again, and they left LadyPorcupine napping in her favorite quilt-draped rocking chair. Whimsy closed the front door behind her with a quiet click and they were off again, their bellies full, the sweet smell of biscuits fading away.

Excerpt from the book, WISHWEAVER, by J.H. Winter.

Flit is a milkweed plant, seedling. In the stories I call them “wisps” because their little skirts give them a soft wispy look. If you aren’t familiar with milkweed plants, they have beautiful flowers of different colors, pinks, oranges, and more! In the fall, the milkweed seeds ripen and the pods dry out. When they burst open, the seeds are swooped up by the wind and carried to a new location where they will hopefully create more milkweed plants.

In the picture below, you may not have known this, but I’m actually holding a milkweed pod with seedlings ready to burst free! There’s one who looks ready to jump out as we speak!

Fun Fact About Milkweed:

Milkweed is crucial in the life cycle of monarch butterflies and they can’t survive without it! If you love butterflies as much as I do, you might consider planting them in your garden!

While this Wishghan CAL posts will always be here for free on my blog, for convenience, I’ve also created one giant 70-page PDF file for those who would like to purchase a copy of all the files together in one place along with a photo tutorial of connecting the squares and doing the final border. No searching through posts necessary! Plus, it’s over there now, should you want to work ahead of the group rather than wait for each week’s new square. You can purchase this pattern for a small fee here on Ravelry. It is also available on Etsy and LoveCrafts.

Make sure to post your finished squares/rectangles on social media:
