Amigurumi Crochet Along: Rolland the Roly Poly (1 of 6)

Let’s start up another crochet along, but this time, we’ll be making an amigurumi together of rather smallish proportions… Rolland, the tap-dancing roly-poly!

I knew when I wrote the Tales of Whimsy series, that Rolland was most definitely going to be a character that would transform well into amigurumi. I couldn’t wait to make him with his cheeky grin!

So, let’s get started, shall we?

Materials Needed:

• Crochet Hooks:
  3.5mm / US E/4
  2.25mm / US B/1
  3.25mm / US D/3

• 6mm Safety Eyes
• Stitch marker
• Yarn Needle
• Embroidery Needle
• Black Embroidery Thread
• Toy Stuffing

Yarn:

• Red Heart Super Saver Solids:
  1 ball in Gray (A)
  1 ball in Charcoal (B)
  1 ball of Black (C)
  small scraps of pink (D)

• Lion Brand Bonbons:
  1 ball in Black (E)
  1 ball in White (F)

Abbreviations:

mr – magic ring
slst – slipstitch
sc – single crochet
ch – chain
inc – increase
invdec – invisible decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)
FLO / BLO – front loops only / back loops only
FO – fasten off

Pattern (Part One): Head

Head (with A):

R1: 6sc in a magic ring – 6
R2: inc around – 12
R3: (sc, inc) around – 18
R4-5: sc around – 18
R6: (sc, invdec) around – 12

**Place safety eyes between R4-5. Embroider face details. Stuff**

R7: invdec around – 6
slst, FO, weave end to close gap, tie off.
