Intro to C2C Corner-to-Corner Crochet and a CAL to Come!
I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted a new video on my YouTube channel, or even since I’ve had a post related to crocheting amigurumi (sorry about that!), but I wanted to teach something a little different from the amigurumi techniques we usually talk about.
This time around, I’m going to teach you how to crochet using the C2C or corner-to-corner technique. In the video below, we’ll begin by learning how to increase. There will be videos to follow that will include: decreasing, color changing, weaving in ends, and sewing squares together.
This technique can be used to make blankets, scarves, pillow covers, etc, and the best part is, you use pixel art, so you can make square charts for any character you want using this method. I use the wonderful site: Stitch Fiddle. I paid for membership which was only about $20 for the year, but by doing so, you get endless customizable charts and colors to use to create your own pixel/square art.
This is all important to learn now, because I’m gearing up to have a CAL (crochet along) here on my blog, with videos over on my Ink & Stitches YouTube Channel, where you will get a chance to put all these new crochet skills to good use! So, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel so you don’t miss anything and keep an eye on the blog here (You know I send out newsletters when there are new posts too right? If not, you can subscribe to the blog posts on the left-side bar using your email).
What are we going to make? you wonder:
I’ve designed a kitty cat blanket—a Cat-ghan if you will—using the C2C technique. There are over twenty different kitty character squares and a larger cat (the size of four 20×20, C2C squares put together) in the center of the blanket that takes one of my favorite kitties into space. Yep! Clear up to see our whole solar system!
We’re going to start by learning the basics because there will be several 20×20 C2C squares (approx. 1’x1′ once complete) of solid colors to get you so familiar with the C2C technique, you’ll be able to do it in your sleep.
After that we’ll work from the easiest to the most difficult of the cat squares. This is going to be so much fun! I hope you all join me during the 2019 CAL and make a blanket of your very own!
In the meantime, lets learn how to C2C together before the holidays so we’re ready to start the Cat-ghan blanket in January after the festivities and things have settled down. Cheers!
