C2C Catghan CAL 2019: Introduction. Let’s get started!
Today we begin something a little different, and a whole lot of fun…
The first ever Ink & Stitches C2C CAL (corner-to-corner crochet-a-long)!
After working through my first ever C2C crochet blanket (pictures to come), using Whistle and Ivy’s Solar System pattern and changing it up a bit for my planet-obsessed, five-year-old son, James… well… I knew I had enough of an imagination to create my own pattern.
Since my daughter, Lizzie, needed a blanket made by me too, I decided to go with one of her favorite animals, cats! This blanket is full of them!
21 to be exact!
Beginning next Thursday (May 9th), we’re going to work our way from square to square, kitty cat to kitty cat, and eventually, we’ll have a beautiful blanket to show for it! I will release a new kitty cat square every Thursday, having one week on how to join the squares, and a final week for the border. So, if I’m doing the math correctly, that’s a total of 23 weeks, putting us near Halloween for having our blankets finished! So, if you’re making this for the holidays for special someone, you’ll have plenty of time to spare!
The small squares are 20×20, and the large center square comes in at 40×40. We’ll start from the most basic designs, that have less color changes, and work our way to the Astrocat. The files for each pattern will be attached to the posts in PDF format for easy download.
This pattern has been tested and re-tested by the wonderful members of the CAL Facebook Group and will be featured on my own Facebook Event group created just for this CAL. Be sure to subscribe to my blog with your email address (on the left side bar of your screen) so you don’t miss a post! You can also go on Twitter, Instagram, or my Facebook page to get updates as well.
I love to see what you’ve made from my patterns so don’t forget to share them on social media with the tag: #CatghanCAL2019
NOTE: When I designed this pattern, it was in an attempt to use up my yarn stash. Because of that, the exact amounts of yarn you’ll need are a bit tough to say. If I say to use red, and you have a burgundy color, use that! If I say yellow and you have a varying shade of yellow, use that! I didn’t want all the greens to match or the blues, etc… and because of that, this blanket couldn’t be any more colorful if I tried!
If you use up your stash, you and I both know that means… one thing and one thing only…
you get to go shopping for more!
And what’s more fun than yarn shopping? Not much. But the look on Lizzie’s face at having her kitty cat blanket to snuggle in certainly was. <3 🙂
Here are a few more images of a couple of blankets made from my wonderful pattern testers:

How can I get the c2c catghan patterns? I got hooked on doing c2c crocheting and I saw the cats.
JHWinter
There are a series of blog posts where we go through the Catghan squares one at a time and join/border (free downloads), or you can purchase the pattern for a small fee on Etsy or Ravelry but it is the entire PDF with every pattern and photo tutorial to join/border, etc. I look forward to seeing your squares/blanket #CatghanCAL2019! 😀

The blanket is approximately 60″ x 90″. Thank you for supporting my work by purchasing the pattern. Let me know if you have any more questions. Happy crocheting!
Kathy
60×90 what? Inches? Cm?
JHWinter
That would be the full size of the blanket when complete 🙂 Happy crocheting!

My gosh, I just found this wonderful pattern and I’m so excited to try it! I’m way behind so I bought your pattern but hopefully I can catch up. I’m really looking forward to seeing your dog patterns as we are dog people here who raise and breed French Bulldogs! Currently have a litter that will be going to their new homes in a month and I’ll have a lot more time then.
JHWinter
That’s so exciting! I’m so glad you found the Catghan, Wendy! I bet those French Bulldogs are adorable 🙂 I’m working on the Dogghan pattern as we speak 😀
Kimsu
HI, I was looking for the other catghan panels. I did my first one and it turned out great! I loved your YouTube tutorial but I need the written instructions as im a new crocheter!
JHWinter
Hi Wendy! I’m so glad you found my blog and YouTube channel! For the Catghan, here is all the various posts related to it. I also have a Dogghan if you like pups, and am currently working on a Wishghan to go along with my children’s chapter book that was just published Sept. 1, WISHWEAVER. I hope you’ll join for the other crochet alongs as well!
Denise Cox
We are all dog people at my home, Great Dane, Australian Shepherd and in extended family, a bull dog , Sharpea, the littles, Yorkshire Terriers, miniature Schnauzer and Morkie. Never the less, I love your imaginative C2C CAL. You are a wonderful and creative artist! If you would consider writing a dog version, I would happily pay for it. Thanks for the pleasure of seeing your catghan come to life for your daughter!
JHWinter
I have had another request for a dog blanket pattern and am planning on making one of those next! Stay tuned!
Gail swierk
I would love to do one with dogs.
JHWinter
Hi Gail! There will be a Dogghan coming out by early next year. We are currently in the pattern testing phase. Stay tuned!

I just saw a block from this on Instagram and had to check it out. I love it so much!!! Definitely added to my list of things to make when I finish a bunch of other projects!
JHWinter
Awesome! I’m happy you found this C2C Catghan CAL! I hope you finish all your projects quick so you get a chance to make the Catghan too! 🙂
Etta Smith
I have never done C2C, but will learn today. Thus, will start the Catghan. Also discovered this orange cat photo. Do you have the pattern for him also.
JHWinter
I have some amigurumi plush toy patterns on my blog. There is a floppy cat that I shared the pattern for here. Is that the cat you are referring to? Good luck on working through the C2C blanket. The videos I have for the first two squares should help you understand the technique before you are off on your own. Happy crocheting!
Brandy
Will you please make a tropical bird (parrot,Toucan, cockatoo, etc) blanket and a reptile one !!! I love your cat and dog patterns so much!!
JHWinter
What great ideas! The birds would be so vibrant! Thank you for the ideas for future C2C blankets, Brandy!
Michaela Schoerg
Thank you for this awsome pattern, I have got friend with weaving in loose ends now.
Now, that I know how to do the color changes I´ll try again The Gillmore Girls C2C
JHWinter
I want to do that one myself at some point. I love Gilmore girls! It’s so nice having someone else to tie in the loose ends 🙂
Trudy
Finished the first 2 squares. They work up so quickly and look fabulous, can’t wait to continue making the squares. Loving this CAL so far, not looking forward to sewing all the ends in though hahahahaha 🙂
JHWinter
Hi Trudy! No one likes loose ends, but it’s like you slowly get to reveal the final picture when you finally do tie them in. I hope to see your final squares over on #catghancal2019. Just a couple days shy of square #3 coming out!
Carol
This is one I will be making, I wonder what it would look like if you incorporated colors of our own cats?
JHWinter
I have had several people alternating colors to resemble their cats over on our Facebook Group for the CAL and they’ve come out wonderful! I say, go for it! Some people even embroidered little faces on the mice 🙂
Delores Spagnuolo
Just came across this on my Facebook feed, and immediately thought of my cat-lover friend whose 75th birthday is in August. I also just checked out a book from my library on how to do the C2C Afghan. Would love to try this, so just signed up for your newsletter. Great scrap yarn project. (And don’t we all have lots of that!)
JHWinter
Oh my goodness yes! In so many different places around the house too! I’m so glad you found this CAL 🙂 I encourage you, if you’re new to C2C, to watch my YouTube videos for the first two squares. I’ve had many crocheters tell me they found them extremely helpful 🙂
Bonnie Diemer
The first Square was fun, looking forward to the others
JHWinter
Thank you, Bonnie! Square #2 is out now! Have fun with Mouse Watching!
Carol
I just found this but would like to give it a go. Looks adorable. I have yet to do a color changing pattern in c2c.
JHWinter
I certainly hope you follow along on my video for the first square. I show how to do the color changes from start to finish. The next square will be released tomorrow as well with one more video walk through. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Sandra
Just spotted this so cute, sign me up please x
Sandra
Just spotted this so I’m a little behind, my granddaughter is mad about cats so will do this in secret as she’s been asking for a new blanket to snuggle under having now outgrown the last one I made her. Love the design can’t wait to start.
JHWinter
Hi Sandra! This will be awesome for her! This blanket is heavy feeling like a weighted blanket which is extra cozy! I hope you find it fun and easy to work up. The first square was up last week and we have the next one coming out on Thursday this week. I will have a video walking you through start to finish for square two as well. I can’t wait to see your finished blanket! 😀
Carol
I can’t wait to start. The purrfect gift for my son’s girlfriend (and me too if I have time). Thank you for sharing.
JHWinter
I’m so glad to hear you’ll be joining us! Can’t wait to see your finished blanket!
Kimberly
Adorable! I love it and my 15 yo daughter will love it! I’m excited to find this CAL. <3 Thank you for your lovely work!
JHWinter
Thank you so much, Kimberly! I’m glad we’ve finished all the testing and can finally get this show on the road for you guys to make! Looking forward to seeing your finished blanket 🙂
Teresa Drake
So adorable! Can’t wait. Thank you for sharing your time, your creativity and your pattern. Sign me up please!
JHWinter
That’s awesome, Teresa! It’s wonderful to hear such positive feedback. This blanket was a labor of love for my daughter and I thought there were probably a fair few cat lover crocheters out there who’d want to make it too. I’m glad to hear you’re one of them!
